August 15th is India's Independence Day

India was liberated from centuries of slavery on August 15, 1947

The central government declared August 15th, 1947, India's Independence Day, a national holiday to commemorate it

Slowly, the British invaded India. Their dominance was established by the 19th century. 

In 1857, India's first war of independence was fought.

They brought most of India under their control and some kingdoms under British rule. 

Every year, the Red Fort in Delhi hosts Independence Day celebrations.
